What is the mid-market rate?

The mid-market rate is the midpoint between the buy and sell prices on the international currency market. It's the "true" exchange rate — the same number you'll see on Google, Reuters, or Bloomberg — and it's the rate Vertexa uses everywhere. Banks and money-transfer apps almost never give you this rate. They start with it, then add a markup, sometimes visible as a fee, sometimes hidden inside the rate itself.

How it works

The conversion happens live as you type — change the amount or either currency and the number above updates instantly using the mid-market rate refreshed every 60 seconds. Click "View {FROM} → {TO} rates" to open the full results page with a table of that base against every major currency, a "Compare all 6 vendors" link, and a note on what actually moves that pair.

Frequently asked questions

What exchange rate does Vertexa use?

We show the live mid-market rate — the midpoint between the buy and sell prices on the international currency market. It's the rate you'll see on Google or Reuters, but it's not what most banks and remittance services offer.

How often are the rates updated?

Rates refresh every 60 seconds and come from a real-time forex data feed. The 'updated N sec ago' line under the converter shows exactly how fresh the number is.

Why is my bank's rate different from what I see here?

Banks and money transfer services add a markup (usually 2–5%) to the mid-market rate. That markup is often invisible — hidden in a 'zero-fee' promise or bundled into the exchange rate itself. Use our /compare page to see the real total cost from 6 vendors side by side.

Can I convert cryptocurrency?
